DEALS & DEAL MAKERS
Commoditized Conduct
New York´s futures exchanges are often considered less technology friendly than their competitors in Chicago and Europe. But the New Yorkers took a small, principled step this week toward changing that profile.
The New York Board of Trade, where the benchmark trading in coffee, orange juice, cotton and other tropical commodities takes place, said it will for the first time provide online ethics training to its largely floor-based membership and staff. The required program will be run by the training firm Exchange Analytics Inc., founded by Chicago Board of Trade member Larry Israel. Although Mr. Israel says he’s conducted courses for thousands of people via their trading firms since 1995, this is the first such online program conducted through – and designed specifically for – a futures exchange.
